The Life of A Garden: "So I sing to my seeds. What about it?" ~ Leslie Gaydos

This is a journal about one full season of a plot in the Tommy Thompson Community Garden, located down in the Intervale in Burlington, Vermont In this spot we will attempt to exhibit the whole process - from starting mostly organic, heirloom seeds indoors, to planting and maintenance and finally the harvest and preservation of our labors. Additionally we plan to try growing potatoes in a trash bin and we will share the lessons we learn about seed saving. We'll finish up by covering fall plantings and putting the garden to bed for the winter. We encourage readers to leave helpful comments or questions, and hope this will prove to be a source of learning and sharing not only for us, but for fellow gardening enthusiasts everywhere.

"So I sing to my seeds. What about it?" ~ Leslie Gaydos

Even though it's April Fools, the following is real...

To all you old seasoned gardeners out there, what follows is not likely to astonish you. But, to us new gardeners, you won't believe this...

Late this morning I noticed the Moon Flowers had broken the surface and around 1:00 pm took this pic:

Then, I went out for a couple of hours and came back to...

Around 3ish, they'd unfurled further...

By about 6:00...

about a half hour later...a new baby arrives!

and then...and by 7:30...

If I hadn't been there to witness it, I might not believe it.

AMAZING!

By the way...those are large yogurt tubs.

Yeah, well, I talk to my plants, fuss at my plants, breathe on my plants (more CO2, right?)--um, doesn't everyone? If they don't, they should after seeing these pics!
